Let’s be honest when people think of piracy the first thing that they thinks is pirates. The type of pirates that go around stealing treasures and hide their treasure from other ships. Well there’s another type of piracy. There’s another type of piracy, digital piracy. This type of piracy is really similar to the piracy about pirates.
In this case the pirates would be the people who steal copyrighted material from the authors. Authors would be the other ships. While the treasure would be the material that was stolen. So piracy still exists in our time.
Most people might think “Oh, everyone steals they can go to jail and everything can be fixed.” Unfortunately digital piracy is really hard to control. Anyone can do it from anywhere. For example kids these days don’t want to pay for their music in iTunes for their iPods. So instead of purchasing the song or the CD, they go to the internet and find ways to download the song. They can just click the ‘download’ button and

immediately save it in their computer and add it to iTunes. iTunes will convert it into a track that they can listen to their iPod. The
artist doesn’t get any credit! They worked hard in a recording studio to release it in an album. Now people don’t buy the album. The album sales are going down. ARTISTS ARE LOSING THEIR MONEY!
This exact same process happens with movies and books. There leaked into the internet where anyone can just click see it, download it, and even give it to someone else. They can do this from their home.
So piracy is affection too much our community these days. People are losing money, stealing, and not respecting copyrights. This might seem like a small problem right now, but the truth is it could turn into something much much more dangerous.
Someone could steal important files or documents from the government. This could threaten the whole world. So we must stop piracy by educating people about it and showing them that’s wrong and that authors deserve credit.
